The COVID-19 global pandemic is having an enormous impact on almost every aspect of our lives. The rapid and easy spread of this virus has created a substantial amount of interest in the germicidal properties of ultra violet and the possibility of using this spectrum to disinfect various applications. This presentation will cover the three types of ultra violet and levels of germicidal properties and capabilities. The history of the use of various lamp sources which can deliver UV will be explored as well as the risks associated with the various types. UVC will be specifically discussed as a germicidal, including how it can be used in various applications such as water, air cleaning and sanitizing items and surfaces, as well as its potential to ‘inactivate’ COVID-19 (Sars-CoV-2).
